There is both a Booster Club meeting and a PTO meeting tomorrow night at 6 PM at the school. Any parent that attends either meeting will receive a house points card for their student.

There will be an 8th grade parent meeting at the high school on Thursday, January 23rd at 6pm.
On Friday, January 24th, 8th graders will participate in an expo at the high school.

Three quick things …
1. This afternoon students will bring home their individual score sheet from the CASE benchmark in each subject. This will show your child’s achievement level on the standards covered during the 2nd 9 weeks.
2. Grades have been finalized for first semester and can be viewed via the parent portal.
3. With the low temperatures predicted for the next few weeks, this is just a reminder that the school doors do not open in the mornings until 7:15 AM.

The SGCMS Athletic Booster Club will be holding annual election of officers at our next meeting on January 14th, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the school library. All Booster Club members please mark your calendars and plan to attend to cast your vote. Non-members are highly encouraged to attend as well to learn more about the club! Students in the 6th grade Career Exploration classes at SGCMS were visited by Dr. Brian Patterson, DDS. He is the father of 6th grade student, Katy Sturdivant. Dr. Patterson talked to students about the value of hard-work and dedication now and as they prepare for their future careers. He shared the details of his daily work and his passion for 3-D printing and what it is bringing to the world of dentistry.

Students in Mrs. Malone’s 7th grade Career Exploration classes are learning leadership skills like collaboration and communication. Students have been challenged to work in groups to build a “spaghetti tower” and float a “helium stick.”
These challenges serve to foster problem-solving and teamwork.





SGCMS would like to thank Mr. Joseph Waugh for taking the time to speak to 6th grade students in Career Exploration. Mr. Waugh is a Yardmaster with CSX Transportation in Memphis, TN. He is also the father of Myla Waugh, who is a 6th grader at South Gibson Middle. Mr. Waugh shared his career background and details of his exciting and challenging career in the field of Transportation and Logistics.

The Gibson County Special School District will honor eligible 8th graders with a Work Ethic Distinction who have met the following criteria. The distinction will serve as validation that the students possessing this credential successfully display strong work habits that will foster success in the workplace. One of the fundamental goals of GCSSD is to create an emerging workforce that has the 21st Century Skills needed to face the challenges of a global marketplace. Students are responsible for applying for the Work Ethic Distinction. A Work Ethic Distinction pin and certificate will be awarded to each student who completes the WED.
Students will need to apply by Monday, April 14, 2025 (the form will close on April 13th at 11:59 PM). Congratulations to these band students who have been selected to attend UT Martin Honor Band in January!


SGCMS FFA competed in their first contest of the year, the State Meat Identification at Wilson County Fairgrounds. The team finished in 5th place within the middle school category and Harper Steinly took 4th place in individual rankings.


Several have been asking so the online House Group store has been reopened and will run through 12/19. Items will be available for pick up at the school after Christmas break unless you choose a shipping option. The House Group store link is below …

Students in Agriculture have been learning about the many different products that come from corn. Last week, the students made plastic from corn starch and corn oil.





Santa's Workshop starts tomorrow and runs throughout this week.



Students in Mrs. Malone’s 6th grade Career Awareness class were visited by Mr. Bret McMillion who owns McMillion Construction, McMillion Plumbing, and MWP. Mr. McMillion talked to students about his career journey from real estate to construction to entrepreneurship. He is the father of 6th grade student, Cason McMillion. SGCMS is so thankful for parents taking their time to teach students about potential career paths.
